creator of “The Little League of Boating,” as part of their "Total Environmental Awareness" (TEA) concept, brings you “The Little League of Chess.”

Chess has been called the game of kings and the king of games. In a world where most of us are pieces on someone else’s chess board, and where every decision made has an effect on others, as well as on ourselves, it is crucial that we learn how to make good decisions in this game we call life. Research has shown that if children are taught how to play chess, they are better able to think through their decisions than those who don’t. This is because chess stimulates the parts of the brain that control problem-solving, goal-setting, and strategic planning. By teaching kids the fundamentals of chess and how to apply them to everyday life, they learn the usage of and reasons for what they are taught, which is the ultimate motivation for learning.

Every game of chess played perfectly is called a “draw” or “stalemate”; neither party wins or loses. Any accomplished chess player will tell you that losing many games is an essential part of becoming a good player. When played regularly, each game of chess serves as a learning experience, allowing both parties to walk away with more than they started with. This creates a multiple win-win situation. The idea is that in a game of chess, if you make the right move, each move, every move, every time, recognizing the next best move is easier. This allows us to create optimal solutions to whatever problems we face, and that is what "Total Environmental Awareness" is all about.

Our goal in this mentoring process is to teach in a way that each student reaches his own conclusions by learning from his mistakes. These mistakes are recognized as part of the learning process rather than as bad choices. Every child needs and deserves a mentor-someone to serve as a guide to show them the way to make proper decisions so that they develop a positive attitude.

Chess education is a multi-million dollar a year initiative. Mentoring is a billion dollar a year initiative. By combining chess and mentoring through a focused goal-setting process, we can increase the probability of success with every child that we work with, and raise the bar on education as we know it.

"The Little League of Chess" is designed to show kids how to build a strong foundation for their future, and that with the right teachers/motivators, anything is possible.
